Repair of a Corner in Boscombe
Boscombe, Bournemouth, Dorset - 3rd-year University Project, 2021.
Architects have frowned upon renovation, especially during the modern era, where their focus was more on innovation. Since the realization of the environmental impact humans have had on our planet, the frowning on repair has changed and architects have come to realize how it can benefit our planet. It can be both invisible and visible and both of them are used in different professions.
The project revolved around looking into how invisible repair in architecture can change the feeling of a neighborhood, through maintaining and repairing damaged parts of buildings. A site was chosen a really damaged corner in the High Street of Boscombe, Bournemouth, UK.
To enhance the difference a small repair could do, the corner was remaid in a scale of 1:2, one side of the wall is a replica of the damage and the other side was repaired. The project showed in the end that if buildings would be cared for, such as high streets, neighborhoods, etc. they would in essence change how people use it and care for their environments.
